mitchcohen
Mac OS X 10.2 added the ability to mount an FTP server as a (read-only) volume, available to all apps. I'm looking for a good way to back up remote web servers, and (at least with quick testing) Retrospect seems to do a decent job. There does seem to be some limitations of the Mac's FTP client, namely some folders which are only readable to the owner come up as read-only. In this case, that's close enough. The only problem I'm having is Retrospect 5's "log into server" option does not seem to support FTP. It recognizes that the defined folder is on a remote server, and asks for the password, but: -The remote server info is blank, and -The password field only accepts eight characters, whereas many FTP passwords are longer. So: 1) I wanted to make sure Dantz knew this (FTP volume backups) was something that could be done, in the hope the FTP login would be supported, and 2) I'd like to know if there are any known workarounds for either the login info or the ability to view/download owner-reader-only folders.
