Chris456
Well I found the answer, someone else 2.5 hours ago had a similar problem. 4gig limit for Fat32 but I still feel retrospect should detect how the HD is formatted then determine the best chunks to break the file into or default to the least common denominator of 2gigs or at least give the user an option to type in the largest file size. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I checked the help file but couldn't find any info for error -246. It says the file has become to large and stops. I've chosen the File type to backup to an external drive. Backup programs I've used in the past would create extra files (after 2 gigs) but retrospect seems to reach the file size of about 3.5gigs then fails. There is no mention of a max size for File and wanted to find out if there is one and what it is? Tomorrow I'll try choosing a Disk backup maybe that'll work better. AmyJ
You should use Disk backup sets with a FAT or FAT32 partition - the data will be segmented to allow for the 2-gig or 4-gig file system size limitation.
