bmnatio
Is there a way speed up the file searches in Retrospect? I am running the latest version on a G3 with a DLT7000 tape drive. bmnatio@sandia.gov
AmyJ
What searches are you referring to? A restore search for files within the catalog? The scanning/matching of files before a backup? The tape drive searching/locating files for restore? What OS? What version of Retrospect? Can you elaborate on your question?
bmnatio
I was referring to searching files to restore from tape backup. By your question are there two ways to search for files? I thought the only way was via the catalog. Also is there a way to speed up the matching during the backup process?
AmyJ
There is no way to search the tape directly - I was referring to the time it takes the tape to find files once you've specified which files to restore. The best way to speed up your searches and matching time is to limit the size of your backup set. The larger your backup set, the larger the catalog file. The larger the catalog file, the longer the search. Use more then one backup set to keep the size of any one set more manageable. Recycle old sets and start over from scratch rather then add to them indefinitely.
