cma6j
I have been unable to backup to an external HD using RE 5.6. I have studied the tutorials but no help there. I have been posting to this Forum for about a week but haven't seen any information on doing a simple backup to an external HD (no automation, no scripts.) I was wondering if any users out there have been able to back up to an external HD with RE 5.6 or am I trying to do the impossible? Thanks, Linda
waune
When I tried to do a backup to an external USB hard drive, I get a communication error (same error occurs no matter which USB port I use). I've reloaded the software, and made no changes - just backup my hasrd drive to the external drive.
AmyJ
What error? What OS? How is the USB drive formatted?
Hokie_Chip
I have the same problem. My Smartdisk USB drive is not recognized by Retrospect, although the drive is recognized by Windows Explorer. The drive functions just fine as an external drive, but retrospect does not detect it. FAT 32 Oh yea, and because I did not solve this problem within 30 days of purchasing my Smartdrive, the help on the bundled Retrospect costs me 39 bucks for something that has never worked. Clearly a sound business practice.
AmyJ
Any local hard drive recognized by Windows will be recognized by Retrospect as a destination for a file backup set. For complete instructions on backing up to a hard drive, see the following tutorial: http://www.dantz.com/index.php3?SCREEN=kbase&ACTION=KBASE&id=27447 For more information on backing up to hard drives: http://www.dantz.com/index.php3?SCREEN=kbase&ACTION=KBASE&id=27235
