Performance

On a windows 2000 server, SP3, two identical IBM ide drives (40GB each), each partitioned to three partitions (system / programs; data; swap area), 768 MB, AMD Athlon, I periodicaly do perform a complete copy from one drive to the other.

First this process did last between 30 and 45 minutes for the two larger partitions (system and data). After two weeks or so it lasts between 4 and 5 hours. The protocol reports that most of the time is done by "idle, waiting, preparing".

Example (data partition, about 11 GB):

Throughput: 21.8 MB/min (copying: 18.8, comparing: 154.9)

Duration: 04:19:28 (04:12:50 idle/waiting/preparing)

There were no changes in the system's configuration during the past two or three weeks.

I wonder because of thetime spent during idle/waiting/preparing. Any help / information on this subject would be appreciated - many thanks in advance!
