Johnson
I have been using my OnStream FW-30 and Retrospect Workgroup 5.0 with great luck from 10.1 to 10.2.2. However, after updating to 10.2.3 and applying the latest update, I can not complete a single back-up without the error code "105, unexpected end of data." Specs: -PowerMac G4 QuickSilver 733mhz, 1.5 gigs of RAM -OnStream FW-30 ADR tape drive with latest 1.09 firmware -Retrospect 5.0 Workgroup with the latest driver update -Drive is connected directly to stock CPU FireWire hub with nothing else connected to it. -I cleaned the tape drive with OnStream cleaning cartridge -I did the normal trouble shooting...unplugging drive, trying other port, etc. -After first error, I opened up three brand new tapes and when trying to compare the last tape, I still received the 105 error. -To test, I removed the latest driver update and installed the previous one from 11-19-2002 and ran a small back up. I still received the error code 105 when trying to compare the last tape. -I booted into OS 9.2.2 and ran same small test back up and it worked perfectly (I know I can not back up OS X data in 9...this was for testing). Example of log with 105 error: Device trouble: “3-G4 Desktop”, error 105 (unexpected end of data). 12/25/2002 1:16:01 AM: Execution incomplete. Remaining: 24234 files, 17.3 GB Completed: 205315 files, 25.6 GB, with 6% compression Performance: 0.2 MB/minute (88.8 copy, 91.0 compare) Interesting Point: -I then made a smaller test back that would fit on one tape (1.0 gig). -I booted back into 10.2.3 and used the latest driver. -It successfully completed the back up! -Could this be related to multiple tape handling? Johnson
On this machine, I also have a smaller 18 gig back-up using the internal, stock CD-R. I just ran a back-up using the CD-R, using the same version of Retrospect, and it worked without any problem.
