Need someway to exit/drop CISCO VPN Connection pri

Backing up a W2K 5.6 client .. CISCO VPN Client may or may not be running at time backup starts.. need to exit/disconnect it so that the server can see the client. Thinking some sort of script running 15 mins prior to sched backup each morning something like 3am.

This seems to be neeed as the VPN client blocks routing to the local subnet. When it is active the server can not see the client .. when I exit it .. the client is visible.

This the right tracK? any ideas what I execute the script in? is there a timed execution scripting facility in Windows 2000 .. or have I missed another approach?
