lucther
We use retrospect 5 for osX to back up three macs and 4 pcs. The macs use osx 10.2 and the PCs windows 98. On all the PCs except one, the back up goes well. On the last one, an "internal consistency check failed " occurs with assetion check at item .c-817. What is the problem and what can I do about it? I also got a piton error 515 on that PC once. Thanks
AmyJ
If problem is specific to one client only, the data may corrupting as it is streamed across the network. The error 515 generally points to failing network hardware. The quickest way to start isolating whether the problem is on the client's network segment or on the client itself would be to use a crossover cable to make a direct connection between the backup server and the client -- essentially leaving your existing network out of the equation. If the problem goes away with a crossover cable, troubleshoot the networking components specific to that client machine (cables, ports, etc.). If the problem exists with the crossover cable: - Update / reinstall NIC drivers - Reinstall TCP/IP protocols - Make sure all third party apps (including utility and virus software) are quit - Try a different NIC if possible The key is to isolate the different variables to find the one causing the problem.
