Maxtor One Button

I have 3 Maxtor 80GB external drives (5000LE). I want to rotate them off-site for backup each day. Is it possible to have Express for Windows work with ALL three drives via the "one Button" option? If so how? If not what does the script need to look like to have three different drives, backup the entire system completely each night (a different drive each night). It is important to NOT require a specific drive on a specific night as the staff may not bring back to correct drive each day. I need to be able to hook up any drive on any day and have a full backup that night. Thank you for your assistance.

It is not possible to configure the One Touch button to call three different scripts to three different locations. Nor is it possible to have a duplicate script set to use three different destinations.

You can set up three scripts manually (within Retrospect) to duplicate to the different drives. When setting up a particular script, the corresponding destination drive will need to be connected to the computer.

Set up the scripts, but don't schedule them. Once the scripts are created / saved - use the Run menu in Retrospect to create "Run Documents" These are executable files that you can save to your desktop that will trigger a script. Create three run documents (one for each script). Your end users can open the executable run document associated with the script that duplicates to the current destination drive. Almost like have a button on your desktop...

See the User's Guide in your application folder for more information on setting up scripts and Run Documents.

A duplicate script is one source to one destination. Retrospect will check the drive to make sure it is the exact same drive as specified in the destination before writing to the drive to prevent data loss.

The Maxtor One-Touch button calls a script which runs the duplication operation. The script name has to exactly match Maxtor OneTouch or the button won't use it. It is not possible to have multiple scripts with the same name.

If you goal is to rotate drives, you can set up one script/destination to handle the first drive, and you can create a second script in Retrospect (with a different name) to handle the second drive. The second script will need to be run manually (through Retrospect) or scripted to run automatically. You can also create Run Documents on your desktop to manually run scripts. See the User's Guide for information on creating Run Documents.
