Mithrandir
I have been periodically getting an error -205 (lost access to storage medium). My tapes are almost brand new, the tape heads are clean, Retrospect otherwise has no problems but this error is preventing me from doing unattended backups. I have done some of the usual SCSI Voodoo tricks, changed IDs, swapped plugs, and switched around terminators. I can fix the problem (albeit temporarily) by Erasing the tape. This is of course not ideal, as I would like to do dated restores. I have not ruled out the possibility of network problems nor have I swapped SCSI cables, swapped tape drives, switched SCSI cards or any of the more in depth SCSI tricks. I use a Sony SDX-D400C tape drive with Sony brand tapes and I use a Sony Head cleaner. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... M
Mithrandir
This error ocurrs before even a single file is copied. During or right after the "Locating" phase of the tape. I also receive a "Catalog out of sync" periodicaly which may or may not be related. Rebuilding the Catalog file fails forcing me to format the tape and start all over... Someone please help this is causing major problems for me!!! Thanks! M

flyboydave
Did you ever find anything on this? I get the same problem, but I can then manually run the exact same backup on the same tape and it will work fine.
