CD/DVD Incompatible?

Recommended Posts

I have a new G4 running Jaguar (OS X 10.2.1) I have not yet been able to get my SCSI card to properly operate so that I can run by SyJet drive, so I decided to just start using CD-RWs for backup. I have all the latest software updates from Apple and have upgraded to Retrospect Express 5.0.236 and have also installed the additional driver update 3.0. The G4 has a Philips CDD5101 CD/DVD drive at Rev 3.5. The Apple System Profiler indicates it CAN burn CDs and the Retrospect "Configure =>Device =>Device Status" function recognizes the drive and driver. The Retrospect "Tools => Verify" function on the new Backup set, which includes the CD/DVD drive, executes successfully. When I actually start performing a backup however, I get an error message indicating that no media is available. The actual message is: "Sorry, no disc storage devices found." The CD is inserted and mounted on the desktop. I can drag files to it in the finder just as if it were a hard disk storage device. What am I missing?

This drive is not yet supported for use with Retrospect. For a list of currently qualified devices, please see:

Dantz goes through a rigorous qualification process with every drive we test. This means that not every drive will be qualified and we can never guarantee that a particular device will be supported. Some drives do not get qualified ever, and some take 6 months to a year to get support. We have no way of telling if this drive will be supported or not at this moment.

We add device support often though, so do check back with our Hardware Compatibility list.

  • 1 month later...

I'm also one of those new PowerMac owners and have the same problems like two others here in the forum (first one from 27/8): the original Apple built-in CD-RW (Philips CDD5101) is not supported in Retrospect Express 5.0.238, driver update 3.1.105).

I still have some hopes that at least for original Apple hardware, we don't have to wait 6 months to 1 year until Retrospect can support this hardware.

I would be glad about any less vague statement regarding the support of this drive.

Thanks,

Ulrich
