mangosi
I'm at the end of my wits. I can't seem to get my backup system to work under OS X. It works under OS 9 with Retro 4.3 but not with 5.0. Here's my configuration: - PowerMac G4/500MHz/256MB RAM/25GB - Atto EPCI-PSCD SCSI-2 HVD - PowerStor L200 / DLT7000 - Retrospect Workgroup 5.0.205 - Mac OS Server X.2.1 1. Apple System Profiler sees the L200 at target:0 lun:0, the DLT7000 at target:1 lun:0 2. Retrospect sees the PowerStor at SCSI-A:0, but "No backup devices found" 3. When I turn SCSI logging on, this is the report: ? AmyJ
In reply to: - Atto EPCI-PSCD SCSI-2 HVD Currently, the only SCSI cards supported in 10.2 are: ATTO Tech EPCI-UL3S EPCI-UL3D EPCI-DC EPCI-DCd Initio Firmware update and driver required for all supported Initio SCSI adapters. These files can be found at: http://www.initio.com INI-9100UW “Miles” INI-A100U2W “Miles U2W” For the complete OS X SCSI card adapter statement, please see: www.dantz.com/index.php3?SCREEN=kbase&ACTION=KBASE&id=27381 For the complete Jaguar compatibility statement, please see: www.dantz.com/index.php3?SCREEN=kbase&ACTION=KBASE&id=27638
mangosi
Thanks for the reply Amy. I did check the the hardware compatibility list prior to posting on the forum, however, while the PSCd isn't on the list, checking Atto's website, they state that compatibility under X.2 is native, with no additional drivers needed from Atto: http://www.attotech.com/macsup.html Perhaps the card isn't configured correctly under Jaguar? I have no way of troubleshooting this except from the Retrospect log files at the moment. I did run Retrospect 5 under OS 9 yesterday and the system seems to behave normally. I forgot to capture the SCSI log...I can post it here tomorrow.

seika7
How do you capture a SCSI log? I'm using Mac OS X Server 10.2.1 on an Xserve with Retrospect Workgroup Backup 5.0.236. Thanks, Bryan
seika7
I have the same problems with an Xserve running 10.2.1 and Retrospect Workgroup Backup 5.0.236 (Driver Update 3.0.104). I'm using an HP Surestore Ultrium 215 LTO drive on the stock ATTO Ultra 160 SCSI card (UL3S). I had to force quit Retrospect this morning and found that it hadn't backed up since Thursday night (I upgraded to Jaguar Server Friday afternoon). Now, Configure -> Devices shows no devices found even though Apple System Profiler shows everything just fine. Nothing changed after ejecting the tape and turning the tape drive off and back on again. I'd rather not reboot the sever right now since everyone's logged on and working now. Please help! Thanks, Bryan
AmyJ
At this time, we have not completed testing with other ATTO cards, and are not currently supporting them for use with OS X. We will update the website as new cards become supported.
seika7
Wait a minute, I know mangosi's card isn't officially supported, but the card on my Xserve IS supported by both Dantz and Apple. From http://www.dantz.com/index.php3?SCREEN=kbase&ACTION=KBASE&id=27639 . . . "SUPPORTED SCSI CARDS The only SCSI card that Dantz supports in the Xserve is the ATTO UL3S-66 PCI card that Apple offers as the "Ultra160 SCSI Card" option. This is the only SCSI card that Apple has certified for use with the Xserve." I'm not the only one having these problems either. In the other forums, others have been getting problems and it doesn't seem to be dependent on the card. It sounds like an issue between the latest version of Retrospect and Jaguar. Is Dantz looking into this yet? Still in crisis mode, Bryan
mangosi
To capture the SCSI messages in the Retrospect log file, hold down the Option-key when clicking on the Preferences button under the Special tab.
