Can you clarify a bit more? Where do you see the file names with FLASH? On your restored system? What kind of restore did you do?

Go to Configure > Backup Sets and then go to the drop down menu Backup Sets > View Contents. Browse the contents of the backup set you restored from - do you see the word FLASH on the file names in the backup set?

What type of device did you back up to?

By repair, do you mean that you went to Tools > Repair and tried to recreate the set? If so, what were the errors that prevented you from repairing or rebuilding the backup set?

A default restore is going to restore your selected files to a new folder on your destination that is named with the name of your backup set. For example, if your backup set is called Backup Set A, a default restore will create a new folder called Backup Set A on your destination and place all your restored files inside.

Well, this might be simple, but since Dantz wants me to pay more for support than the software costs...

Backup script seems to work great, but when I went to restore email (Eudora), I found that it was creating a new file every time it ran the script, "In-1" "In-2" ... "In-62" It took an hour to restore the 6 GB backup folder just to get to the 40 KB most recent "In" to restore a corrupted email directory. Ridiculous. Why doesn't RE replace the files with the same names when it makes saves to Backup?

Also, RE allows for selection of backup files by name. It should also allow for selection by date.

If Retrospect restored 62 copies of your mail file, then it sounds like you did a "Search and retrieve files...' restore, and elected to restore all versions of the file, rather then choosing only the one you wanted in the Files Chosen window.

By default, Retrospect is going to restore files to a new folder, rather then back to the original location to prevent data loss. You can change this in the Destination window from Retrieve Files and Folders to Replace Corresponding Files. These options are outlined in the Destination Selection window so you know where the files are being restored and what the different restore types (Restore Entire Disk, Replace Corresponding Files, Retrieve Files and Folders, Retrieve Just Files) will do.

Retrospect Express does have an option to overwrite the files in a backup set - it is called a Recycle Backup. Please keep in mind that this does not overwrite the changed files only, it resets the contents of the entire backup set and starts over from scratch.
