buvaudio
I've been using Retro for years but only with AIT tape drives. The problem I'm having is with the G4 and Retro Express concerning CDR backups. I can't seem to get it working. Retro says that no supported device is found. I've downloaded the extension updater and the driver update. Is this all I need to have to get it to work or do I need Toast also. Guest
[i've moved this thread to the Mac OS 9 Forum] To back up to supported Apple internal CD-RW drives, you need one of the following: -Apple’s SDAP Authoring Support (included with Mac OS 9.2.1 or later) -OR- - Roxio’s Toast CD Reader 5.0.2 (an update to Toast 5.0 and 5.0.1) -OR- - Apple’s Authoring Support 1.1.3 (available via the Software Update Control Panel) and Mac OS 9.1 You also need both the Retrospect Driver Update 2.2 or later and the Retrospect SDAP Support 1.2 extension. If you have older versions of these files, the current versions can be obtained from the Dantz web site at http://www.dantz.com/upgrades NOTE: Although your drive may appear in Retrospect’s storage devices window, only drives listed as qualified on the Dantz Hardware Compatibility List are supported. Use Apple System Profiler to determine the CD-RW model in your computer and compare it to the compatibility list. Dantz is investigating support for other Apple CD-RW and DVD-R drives. Please refer to the Dantz web site for ongoing updates for supported devices. If you do not have the Retrospect Driver Update 2.2 or later, you may download it from http://www.dantz.com/index.php3?SCREEN=rdu Download the Retrospect Extensions Updater, which includes the Retrospect SDAP Support 1.2 extension, from http://www.dantz.com/index.php3?SCREEN=usb SUPPORTED DRIVES THAT DO NOT APPEAR: POSSIBLE PROBLEMS Retrospect Requirements - Retrospect 4.3 + RDU 2.2 or later, or Retrospect 5.0 - If using the RDU, confirm that this has loaded correctly by checking your operations log, which should show the following: Retrospect version 4.3 launch at 9/27/2001 10:54 AM Retrospect Driver Update, version 2.2 Extensions Combinations There are three combinations of extensions that will allow Retrospect to support ATAPI CD-RW drives shipping in Apple computers. The first is the Apple package of extensions installed by Mac OS 9.2.1. The second is the Roxio Toast 5.0.2 package. The third is Mac OS 9.1 with Apple Authoring Support 1.1.3 installed. If you have Toast 5.0 or 5.0.1, please go to www.roxio.com to obtain an update to Toast 5.0.2. Mac OS 9.2.1 Apple CD/DVD Driver 1.4.7 Installed By Mac OS 9.2.1 Apple Packet Media Access 1.0.1 Installed By Mac OS 9.2.1 SDAP Authoring Support 1.0 Installed By Mac OS 9.2.1 Retrospect SDAP Support 1.2 Installed By Retrospect Extensions Updater Make sure that no conflicting CD-ROM/CD-RW extensions are in the System Folder. Roxio Toast 5.0.2 Toast CD Reader 5.0.2 Installed By Roxio Toast 5.0.2 Retrospect SDAP Support 1.2 Installed By Retrospect Extensions Updater Make sure that no conflicting CD-ROM/CD-RW extensions are in the System Folder. Authoring Support 1.1.3 and OS 9.1 Apple CD/DVD Driver 1.4.7 Installed By Mac OS 9.1 Apple Packet Media Access 1.0.1 Installed By Authoring Support 1.1.3 SDAP Authoring Support 1.0.1 Installed By Authoring Support 1.1.3 Retrospect SDAP Support 1.2 Installed By Retrospect Extensions Updater Make sure that no conflicting CD-ROM/CD-RW extensions are in the System Folder. Additional Troubleshooting Check to see if the CD-RW device is visible in the Device Status section of the storage devices window. If the RDU did not properly load for the device or the device is not yet supported, the "driver" will be ".sdapStubDrvr." If the drive is listed as supported, but this is the driver that is loaded, then RDU 2.2 or later is not loading properly. If Apple System Profiler cannot see the CD-RW drive on the IDE bus, then there is a hardware issue. Make sure that all IDE cables and power connectors are properly fastened in the computer. For further assistance troubleshooting a hardware problem of this nature, contact the manufacturer of the drive.
risingedge1
I also have similar problems because my backup drive is not found. I have tried all the suggestions I've seen at this site (and a few other things). Here's my setup: 867 MHz Quicksilver G4 Mac OS 9.2.1 SuperDrive (Pioneer DVR-103) Retrospect Express 5.0 (upgraded from 4.3) I looked at the required extensions combinations (Mac OS 9.2.1 set) in this thread and I'm pretty sure that this is where my problem lies. I have the Apple CD/DVD Driver, the Apple Packet Media Access, and the SDAP Authoring Support, but no Retrospect SDAP Support. Where is this supposed to come from? Am I missing some installer? In case it matters, other unusual things are that the Packet Media Access extension is in the Extensions folder but not visible in the Extensions Manager window, and the SDAP Authoring Support extension is actually version 1.0.1, not 1.0 (and installed by Authoring Support Update 1.1.5, not Mac OS 9.2.1). Any advice? Thanks in advance, Jason
ZakB
If you are missing the Retrospect SDAP Support, you can download the extensions updater from www.dantz.com/upgrades .
