Retrospect.exe Application error: the application failed to initialize properly (0x0000005)

I had Restrospect 6.0 (bundled w/Maxtor 300GB drive) installed and working fine; recently I began getting the following error message when trying to run the application:

 

"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application".

 

To try and resolve I have done the following:

1. Unistalled and reinstalled the application, rebooting after each install and/or removal.

2. Verified that the Windows XP DEP feature is set to allow Retrospect

3. Set DEP to only apply to Windows and Sytem files

3. Re-installed .NET 1.1 SP1

 

The only thing I can recall doing prior to this issue was adding .net 2.0 to use with Windows SharePoint Designer, a required component.

 

Any suggestions are much appreciated!
