Single backup set vs multiple

I am using the Professional version - no Proactive backup. I have a number of clients that I back up regularly with a central backup server. I know with Proactive if the clients are all running the same OS, for example, and you are sharing a backup set across those clients, the same files don't get backed up for each client.


Does this hold true even if you are not use Proactive backup - but simply backing up all of those clients to a single client backup set? If it does - then I would assume that if you turn on backing up the workstation security information for files/folders then that would eliminate the ability to store those common files only once across the backup set, right?
