recover mft - restore files are there, but can't access

Recommended Posts

I have a maxtor one touch ii 300 GB drive connected via usb. Retrospect HD 1.0

I see the restore points folder and several backup folders, but there are no files in the folders. Earlier today when I connected the device to a new computer (old one is shot), it said I had 18 restore points. Later, I rebooted and now retrospect sees no restore points, although the folders are there and the device shows 196gb used.

I was able to open the icon file, but I can't copy files to the disk.

I got an error message from windows stating that it was unable to write the mft.

I did some searching around and I guess this is the master file table for the NTFS drive. How do I rebuild that table.

Please help. Thank you.
