assert_log.utx - elem.cpp-1000 error

I have recently reinstalled Retrospect 7.5.324 on my Windows XP machine because I thought a reinstall would finally allow me to successfully backup my machine to a USB harddrive. But I keep getting this error near the end of the backup that says:

Assertion Failure at "elem.cpp-1000"

A log of this has been written to the file assert_log.utx.

I am demoing this product and am just about ready to give up and buy something else. Can anyone offer any assistance?
