Retrospect Express not working

I was recently enlisted at work to backup a Windows XP PC. Since I already had Retrospect I thought I would give it a try. We purchased a Western Digital 250 external USB 2 drive to back up to. After installing and upgrading the software I attempted to make a "duplicate" of the internal drive to our new external one. So far when I click start all I get is a status that it is preparing the back up and nothing seems to happen on the status bar. Any Ideas? I personally own mostly Macs and I have never had this problem with any of the backups I have done on them. Oh well.
