Retrospect Client .v. Direct access and error 102

Been using v7.x for a few years. Upgraded to 7.5 on different server with big JBOD array hanging off a Compaq 5300 4 port SCSI adapter.


Using 7.5 to back up to external LTO1 drive off an Adaptec 29160 card - getting "trouble communicating error 102" - non helpful messages. It seemed that there may just be some kind of timing problem with the data transfer, but using the Retrospect Client rather than just going to the local folder sems to make a difference. Is this just my immaginaton, or does the client actually do something useful if you are backing up fles on the same machine as the server software?
