krgraham
Is there an easy way to keep Macs awake during backup? My powerbook and desktop are both set to sleep at different intervals. When doing a network backup of both, one or both Macs tend to enter sleep mode even though Retrospect is actively executing. I can use Hot Corners to keep the Screen Saver from executing, but how does one keep Energy Saver from kicking in during a backup?
techgoose
I generally won't allow Macs to enter full sleep when operating in a networked environment; it causes a host of problems with file shares, shared databases... and Retrospect. Alternatively, I like to set the "separate" time for the display to sleep, and (in OS 9 anyway) the hard drive to spin down, but set the sleep control to "never." That way, the processor stays alive and all these problems go away.
