Internal consistency check failed: Assertion check at "elem.c-821"

Recommended Posts

I have gotten the elem.c-821 error, since upgrading to Tiger 10.4.2. I did not get the error with 10.4.1. I found that, if I run a utility named AppleJack with "applejack AUTO restart," it finds about 10-15 bad temp files (should be 0 kb in size, but some number of kb)when it repairs my SCSI disk (I have the latest ATTO drivers, flash file, etc.). It repairs the disk, repairs permission, clears cache, etc. After my system reboots I run Retrospect, again. The backup completes with no problems. Those temp files are probably from Dashboard, in my opinion, not Spotlight, but I could be wrong. Both pieces of software seem to create lots of instability with this release of OS X. Note: The SCSI drive is my boot drive, not my backup drive. I use a LaCie FireWire drive for that. Give AppleJack a try or boot from the Tiger installation disk and run Disk Utility from there before giving Retrospect another try. For me AppleJack was the easiest method.
