SSC_Input
Two ideas for data de-duplication in Retrospect: 1) For Retrospect Storage Groups, create a master index for the catalog file that can be used to look for duplicates in ANY of the backup sets on the disk media and not just the *.rdb files that match the specific client folder in the backup media. Matching files that are present on many hosts would only need to be copied once and could save significant backup time and storage destination space. 2) De-duplication saves space on the backup media but media corruption and failed areas of the media can prevent a full restore. Use a storage data integrity assurance method to protect the de-duplicated backup files that show heavy use based on the indexes.
