hiker
I am learning Retrospect through trial and error at my job, so hopefully this is a question easily answered by someone who knows what they are doing. We have never been able to put as much data on the backup media as we hoped - usually less than 1 TBs per tape. Recently, Retrospect starting asking for a second tape almost immediately after beginning a backup. The last two backups had less than 10GBs on tape 1 before I was asked for more media. 650 GBs (12,874 files) took 2 Ultrium 5 tapes where last month we fit 1.3 TBs (66,932 files) onto only 1 tape. As far as I can tell, none of the settings or options have been changed. (Fast Catalog rebuild, Hardware Compression) Can someone help shed light onto what may be going on and how I can fix this? I am running Retrospect 13.0.1 on a Mac Pro Dual-Core Intel Xeon with 12GBs of RAM. It's connected to a Quantum Ultrium 5 DC LTO drive. We run a tape cleaning cartridge whenever the drive indicates the need.
DavidHertzberg
hiker, Try looking at this Knowledge Base article, and also at this thread—which is Windows-oriented.
