koltes
Is there any way to alter the block size Retrospect (Version 10 / Windows) uses to write data to a tape drive? I am having performance issues with a Dell LTO-4 HH SAS drive. Using the diagnostics tool for the drive, I was able to track the performanace issue down to the block size used. Retrospect uses a block size of 64 KB when writing data to the drive, limiting average throughput to 50-80 MB/s with a significant amount of back hitching. When manually writing test data with this block size using the diagnostics tool, I get similar performance. However, when writing test data with 256 KB or 512 KB block size, performance gets close to the specified data rates of the drive (max block size of the drive is 16 MB, max block size of the SAS HBA used is 2 MB). Drive firmware and OS driver are the latest version.
