peternlewis
If I click Stop on a job, you've got 1 second (5 seconds tops!) to stop the job. Most times I want to stop a job, it's clearly failing for some reason, and it just sits there, maybe it'll stop at some future time, maybe it wont, who knows. Same for stopping the engine. 1 second. 10 seconds absolute max. Whatever jobs are running need to be killed (cleanly enough that nothing is corrupted) and the engine needs to be stopped. This business of carrying on doing things indefinitely is ridiculous. Mark whatever you're writing as useless to be cleaned up later, close whatever you're doing and stop.
