HP DDS-4

Recommended Posts

I'm using Retrospect 10 on MAC OS 10.7.5. I've got an HP DDS-4 tape drive with some tapes that might include some important files, but I'm having trouble accessing what's actually on the tape. Retrospect is seeing the drive and the tape inserted, but I can't seem to double click or right click or anything to view the contents of the tape.

I'm new to this latest version of Retrospect (we haven't used this backup system since version 6 years ago), so can anyone help? Thanks.

In order to view the contents of the tape, you need a catalog of the files. Since you don't have the catalog file, you will need to recreate it from the tape. (Retrospect 10 is only able to read data from Retrospect 6 and later tapes, so if this particular tape was created in an earlier version, you would need to obtain a copy of Retrospect 6 and—because that version is PowerPC-based—run it on a computer with OS 10.6.x or earlier.)

Go to Media Sets and click on "Rebuild..." If your desired tape is not member #1, you can choose either to begin the catalog rebuild with that member, or you could rebuild the entire catalog by inserting all the tape members in order.
