Retrospect 7.7 Recycle Backup Solutions

The backups week start's on Tuesday as the company has so many Mondays off its not beneficial to start the week on the Monday, so it starts on a Tuesday. We have daily scripts for each day and a monthly archive with a recycle running every 12weeks on each member set at periods of 12 weeks apart.

 

 

Recycle runs ever 12 weeks on a friday at 22.00 this is still completing on the Monday, leaving the Friday evening, Sat and Sun backups to hang all weekend. Once the recycle is finished the next member set is put in to start again for the new week . Friday is being missed every 12weeks as well as the weekend scheduled backups, every 12 weeks.

 

I would like to automate the backups to run everyday as scheduled with a recycle on the 12th week whilst still running the friday backup. The main problem is the recycle takes 4 days to clear all tapes in the member set. Which means the recycle has to start as early as possible on the Friday to make sure its finished for the Monday evening scheduled backup.

 

Any suggestions would be gratefully received, or suggested schedules that may work better or have worked better for you?

Have you tried turning off verification as this can increase the time it takes to do a backup? Even if you set verification to media only it might help reduce the time for your recycle backup.
