8dcc1529-8076-42d5-b164-f58c8172dfec
I do a little IT consulting, and I always get my clients to buy and install Retrospect. A client got a rather nasty malware infection. Because we have good backups and network data storage, I was able to say, "let's just wipe the disk and restore." Backup was made of a WinXP SP3 machine using the Retrospect 76.client. I had my customer buy the 7.7 upgrade, burned the bare metal restore image to CD, and moved the USB drive that's used for backups to the machine to be restores. (To save the time to restore over the network.) The restore went fine, but when the machine was rebooted, I got the message "can't restore com+ class registration database" from the Retrospect "helper." My questions are: 1. How much damage has been done? 2. Can I recover from the damage? 3. How can this be prevented in the future? Thanks! --Bob
Cygnis
I don't know the answers to your questions, but have found a bit of background information: http://forums.dantz.com/showtopic.php?tid/33499 (old Retrospect forum) http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa381499%28v=vs.85%29.aspx (Microsoft website) Is the machine working fine aside from this error? Now that the backup server has been updated to v7.7, have you updated the client software to 7.7 as well? http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/retrospect/software_updates.html
8dcc1529-8076-42d5-b164-f58c8172dfec
I had read both of those before posting here. Didn't get very much out of them. Yes, I've updated the client software. Thanks for the reminder, though. That would be easy to overlook. Yes, the restored machine appears to be working. It was used all day today and I've gotten no phone calls. I forgot to add in my original message that the backup (made with 7.6) completed without error.
