How do i script Mon-Thu, 4xFri, 3xMonthly?

Hi guys,

 

I'm wanting to setup backup sets and scripts to perform the following backups:

Sorry about using dashes to indent, but the system doesn't seem to support spaces...

 

Monday - Thursday

- - 1 tape for each day

- - Differential Backup

 

Fridays

- - 4 Tapes for 1st, 2nd 3rd and 4th (if required) Friday in each month

- - Full Backup

- - This provides up to 4 weeks of data from which to recover if old data needs to be restored

 

Monthly

- - 3 Tapes for the last day of each month

- - Full backup

- - This would replace whatever job was due to run in any of the above Mon-Thur or Fri backups

- - This provides up to 3 months of data from which to recover if old data needs to be restored

 

Please assist as this is on a production server.

 

This is what I've created so far:

 

Backup Sets

- - Monday

- - Tuesday

- - Wednesday

- - Thursday

- - Friday 1

- - Friday 2

- - Friday 3

- - Friday 4

 

Automate - Manage Scripts

- - Monday - Thursday

- - - - Run on Day Of Week

- - - - Every 1 weeks

- - - - Differential Backup

- - Friday 1

- - - - Repeating Interval

- - - - Every 1 Months on the 1st Friday

- - - - Recycle Backup

- - Friday 2

- - - - Repeating Interval

- - - - Every 1 Months on the 2nd Friday

- - - - Recycle Backup

- - Friday 3

- - - - Repeating Interval

- - - - Every 1 Months on the 3rd Friday

- - - - Recycle Backup

- - Friday 4

- - - - Repeating Interval

- - - - Every 1 Months on the 4th Friday

- - - - Recycle Backup

(The following I have not created but want to get working in addition to the above)

- - Month 1

- - - - Repeating Interval

- - - - Every 1 Months on the last day of the month

- - - - Recycle Backup

 

Some Issues & Thoughts

1. If I create monthly backups, won't the backup try and run twice in one night & cause all sorts of problems? That is, Run once for the monthly backup, but also for whatever other day the backup lands on. For eg, the 31st August 2006 is a Thursday, I want to run the Mothly backup on this day and don't want the Thursday backup to run at all. The same goes for Mon-Thur & 4 Friday backups...

- Yosemite actually does this seemlessly & really well, but I've had issues restoring from Yosemite so I'm sticking with Retrospect...

 

2. The only other thing I'd like to do, but is an optional extra at this stage, is to have 7 yearly backup tapes (for tax purposes - Australian Govt requires us to keep data for 7 years). The reason this is completely optional is that I guess I can sit infront of the terminal & perform a copy backup on 31 Dec (what a great way to spend the day).
