One touch button on external hard drive not working

I tried to backup my hard drive and the one touch button will not work. I have to bring up the retrospect software and run the one touch from there. I did install some software for another program the other day that required me to disenable all items in my msconfig. I went back in msconfig and checked the maxtor one touch start up and it still will not work. I am using Retrospect software version 6.0.220 OEM edition with a 120 external maxtor hard drive. Like I said, the one touch function works fine when running the software, the one touch button on the hard drive is not recognized. Thanks
