cj8n
I tried dozens of of times to get a successful file backup to SmartDisk 30 GB Firewire Drive. I was told by the drive manufacturer that they would not support Retrospect. After reading a tip in the general device forum I split the catalog from the backup set file and the backup was succesful. In Retrospect see the configure, backup sets tab to make this change. On previous backup attempts with the catalog part of the backup set I got transfer rates of 10 mb/ minute and it failed after a few gigs. On the successful backup I got transfer rates of 200mb/minute and backed up over 10 GB without error. If your having problems with a firewire device try separating the catalog and I bet it will fix the problem. flatpanel iMac OSX 10.1.4 & Retrospect Express
