jetmaster
I am using Retrospect Backup 5 on a Mac G4 with Mac OS 10.1.4. I have a Windows PC connected by Ethernet using Windows 98 and the Retrospect 5 Client. When I backup the networked Windows PC it is recognized and the process begins but it is VERY VERY slow. Whereas the Mac volume on which Retrospect resides copies/compares at 90/160 MB/min, the networked PC goes at about 0.5 to 4MB/min. I don't recall this being a problem when using Retrospect 4.3 and OS 9.2. Basically, I purchased the client licenses for v5 and find the performance useless! Please help. shadowspawn
I perform backups matching all the details you gave, without having such problems. Three suggestions: 1) Check for screen-saved or similar running on client. 2) Was that poor performance over a significant sized backup? When Retrospect scans 4 GB to backup 2 kB, the performance figures are not representative of the work going on! 3) Reboot client. Sometimes these sorts of problems are due to some transient wacky situation that never happens again.
