bhill
I am working on a 400 MHz TiBook running system 10.1.4. Yesterday I downloaded Retrospect v.5 and began a backup at 8:00 this morning. It is now 20:00, and I have spent the entire day trying to make this software do what Dantz tells us that it will effortlessly do. My main problem is this: back-ups seem to go fairly smoothly, but when it gets to the data comparison phase, the software completely bogs down. For the 6th time, I have given up at 2 hours into the software comparing data on the first of 10 discs. I stopped the back-up, and then the software gets into some sort of loop, and I have to force-quit, which results in the screen being covered in arcane Unix messages of various sorts, and then the machine freezes, necessitating a hard re-start (this is behaviour I have never seen in 13 months of flawless performance from this laptop). What the hell is going on here? Any help is desperately needed and will be warmly appreciated.

Guest
This drive requires that you use high-speed rated media. In addition, on MacFixit.com Yamaha reported that their drives don't work well with Kodak, Memorex, and Maxell media. They suggest Sony, TDK, or Verbatim. Try high-speed media from a recommended manufacturer.
