Security settings

I have recently installed a Maxtor One Touch 2 drive with Retrospect Express running on Windows XP with SP2. I am successfully getting automated and manual backups but I am a bit concerned about security of my data. The 2 problems I have are:

First, when I set a password for the Maxtor drive, the Maxtor stays locked when Windows is booted or re-booted. I have to disconnect the Maxtor then re-boot Windows and then connect the Maxtor before I get the password menu to complete the unlocking. The drive comes on normally if I do not set a password.

Second, I cannot find any method within Retrospect Extress of adding encryption to the backups.

Can anyone advise please?
