jpkunst
Greetings, Using Retrospect 6.1.138 on Mac OS X 10.4. Is it at all possible to copy file backup sets to another disk and have them still working? Every time I do this (using Carbon Copy Cloner to clone my backup disk to another one) I get Trouble matching xxxx to yyyy Set, error -24201 (chunk checksum didn't match). If I try to do a new 'Normal Backup' to the copied file backup set. Trying to "Verify" the file backup set gives this error: Can't load source session tree for dd-mm-yyyy hh:mm, error -24201 (chunk checksum didn't match). Rebuilding the catalog ("Repair file backup set") takes a long time; in the log about 20 of these errors are visible: Can't save catalog, error -24201 (chunk checksum didn't match). After the rebuilding is done the file backup set still isn't usable (same chunk checksum error). I always end up having to do a 'Recycle Backup' to the copied file backup set, after which everything works normal again. I'm wondering if it simply is not possible to succesfully copy a file backup set to another disk. Thanks, Jan Pieter Kunst Edited July 31, 2010 by Guest
jpkunst
Addition: on further consideration, the problem seems to be with my hardware. I again got chunk checksum errors. It seems that USB mass storage does not work reliably on my G5 desktop.
Lennart_T
Can Carbon Copy Cloner verify the copy? If not, you do have a hardware problem.
jpkunst
I tried it again (copying File backup sets to a new disk), this time with a Firewire disk. No problem using the copied backup sets afterward. It is indeed a hardware problem with USB mass storage on my G5. Oh well. Too bad I have to miss out on all the cheap USB harddisks available now, but I'll manage.
Lennart_T
Try another USB disk. Try another USB cable. It might be one of those, not your Mac.
