Client IP change - lost client connectivity

We are using Multiserver 6.5.350 under W2K, clients are 5.1/6.0 and 6.5. For some reason a lot of clients received a new IP address from the DHCP server last night. We are currently investigating why because it was not supposed to happen. Anyway, since the event our Retrospect server cannot connect to the clients anymore, although resolving hostname to IP works form the OS level. The clients were added to the client list by Multicast browsing. I thought that if a client's IP address changes Retrospect would try DNS. Is that correct, and if yes, why does it not work? The display showed "finding it08..." , followed by a cannot connect error. From the OS level "ping it08" works fine, albeit showing a new IP number.
