Adding Backup Server to Current Strategy

I'm using Retrospect 6 Workgroup on an iMac to backup both Mac and PC clients. Currently, I'm using a backup script that looks like this:

Week 1 to Backup Set 1 on FW drive 1

Monday - Recycle

T-F - Normal

Week 2 to Backup Set 2 on FW drive 1

Monday - Recycle

T-F - Normal

Week 3 to Backup Set 3 on FW drive 2

Monday - Recycle

T-F - Normal

My question is, how can I insert the use of a "Backup Server Script" into this scenario to give the users a little more control over when they're backed up and to provide more flexibilty for mobile users and removeable drives? Also, I want to use the backup server script to use each of the three sets corresponding to the current week. Both FW drives are hooked up all the time. Make sense? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi

Having both drives available at all times makes this a bit more tricky. I would use proactive scripts in addition to your current scripts.

One option would be this:

Create three proactive scripts. One backs up to set 1 anytime on Mon/Fri, another backs up to set 2 anytime on Tues/Thurs, another backs up to set 3 anytime on Wednesday.

You could limit the scope of these backups with selectors so you don't end up getting too much data.

Hope that helps

Nate
