Single Server 6.5 Lost Settings

Recommended Posts

I have Retrospect Single Server 6.5 running on Windows Server 2003 with the Open File Backup and Proactive Script add-ons.

Today I applied the latest two criitical updates from windowsupdate.microsoft.com, viz.

Security Update for Internet Explorer (KB833980)

Microsoft GDI+ Detection Tool (KB873374)

After rebooting and restarting Retrospect I discovered all it's settings had vanished -- it was asking for a product registration code to be entered. Luckily this time I'd backed up

c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\retrospect\config65.dat

c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\retrospect\config65.bak

but this shouldn't happen should it?

Had Retrospect run and quit properly before you applied the updates? What is the create date on the folder containing the Retrospect preferences? I wonder if the updates made changes to the application data folder which caused the Retrospect folder to be deleted?

That happened to me before. What I did find out is that Retrospect saves all this information in a hidden file located here (for default install):

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Retrospect

I added that to the backup routine so that it's easy to restore my scripts and settings....
