beginner question

Recommended Posts

OKay, I am new to Retrospect and I have question od setting up my retrospect.

Okay, I have Retrospect 6.0 for Windows 2000 server. I also have 3 sets of backup tape. Each set has 5 tapes I label as below:

Set 1: Monday 1, Tuesday 1, Wednesday 1, Thursday 1, Friday 1

Set 2: Monday 2, Tuesday 2, Wednesday 2, Thursday 2, Friday 2

Set 3: Monday 3, Tuesday 3, Wednesday 3, Thursday 3, Friday 3

Now, how do I setup with EasyScript to back up my local filesto each tape according to the day of the week? let's start from Monday of week 1 to Friday of Week 1, then next week which is week 2 then it backs up to tapes of Set 2 and so on to tapes of set 3.

After all tapes of set 3 are backed up, then it goes back to tapes of set 1 and continuously in the cycle like that.

What do I need to do with the Backup Set in Retrospect?

Please give me some hints. Thank you

Hi -

You'll need to make 15 backup sets - one for each tape. Then make a single script, and add all 15 sets as "Destinations."

The schedule will dictate which set is used on a given day. For example:

Every 3 weeks starting on March 29, backup to Monday 1

Every 3 weeks starting on March 30, backup to Tuesday 1

etc...

Every 3 weeks starting on April 5, backup to Monday 2

Every 3 weeks starting on April 6, backup to Tuesday 2

etc...

Every 3 weeks starting on April 12, backup to Monday 3

Every 3 weeks starting on April 13, backup to Tuesday 3

etc...

The end result is that you will have:

1 Script

15 Backup Set Destinations

15 schedules within your script

Be sure to set the start dates appropriately to avoid overlap.
