slickerda
I have happily been using Retrospect Express for more than 6 months with no problems. I edit image files on my external drive and then "duplicate" those files to my internal drive. I then can take my external to another location and "duplicate" that to the internal on my other computer. That way I have 3 copies on 3 different hard drives in different locations and keep things straight by using the external as the "master" for images. Up until now when I edited (even deleted) files, "duplicating" would edit and delete those files on the drive being duplicated to. I don't know what I changed but "duplicating" now does add any new files to the target drive but does not delete any that have been removed from the source drive. Any suggestions on what I may have changed would be greatly appreciated!!! Jim
slickerda
Thought I'd bring this back to the first page in hopes that someone who sees this might be able to help. As Retrospect has no phone or email support after the initial install, is there anywhere else one can turn to for help in matters like this? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. pvsurfer
I've only been using Retrospect (Professional) for a couple of weeks. However, if Express' functionality is similar to that of Professional, you may want to check out the Destination Selection box that specifies "Replace Entire Volume" or "Replace Corresponding Files". I believe the wrong selection in that box would cause your problem. Btw, I too don't understand why the moderators don't respond to the problems/concerns of users in this forum more than they do. They obviously have the expertise to provide helpful answers, suggestions and solutions! Good luck...
slickerda
Thanks for the suggestion. I don't want to replacet eh entire volume as that would take forever. Instead I loaded Robocopy from Microsoft (free) and it does everything I want it to. It only replaces changed files and also deletes any file that I have deleted from the master. I would never buy software from a company that only supports it for a few weeks and then doesn't even support it if you are willing to pay for it! natew
Hi In spite of what the name leads you to believe Retrospect's "replace entire volume" option only copies new and changed files. In essence it is an invremental copy. It also deletes/ overwrites old files from the destination. It is much like mirroring, making the source drive match the destination. This is covered in detail Here Thanks Nate
slickerda
Thanks Nate, That seems to have worked. I could have sworn that I had it set to "replace corrosponding files" before and it would delete files that had been deleted from the source but I must have been wrong. Thanks very much for the explanation!!
