RetroSF
I checked the Retrospect list for hardware devices and searched for DVD RW/R that was available in nearby stores. All DVD RW/R's in stores were later versions of listed, therefore, got latest of Sony that had been supported in earlier version numbers, thinking if earlier versions were qualified maybe new one would be too. I have installed Sony DRU 530A. I have Retro 6.5 single server with Windows 2000 Server OS. Retro id's Sony and when I click to configure, it asks for media, I insert media and Retro begins turning clock icon, there is an audible click and then blue screen, at the top of the screen it says it is dumping external memory and reboots itself. I have tried DVD +R and DVD -R and CDR and CDRW and get the same experience every time. Any help would be appreciated.
AmyJ
Supported "earlier" versions means that we have tested those devices extensively in-house with Retrospect and we know they work with Retrospect. Sony could have made any number of changes to the DRU-530A, which makes it different then the older models, and unsupported at this time. The Auto-Configurator can build a driver for most unsupported drives. What brand of media are you using? Make sure it's name brand, such as Sony, TDK or Verbatim. Make sure the drive is configured as the Master drive. Try uninstalling any other CD mastering software that may be installed on this computer. Try moving the drive to another computer, if possible, to isolate whether it is the drive causing the blue screens or something else in the computer environment. RetroSF
The Auto-Configurator can build a driver for most unsupported drives. What brand of media are you using? Make sure it's name brand, such as Sony, TDK or Verbatim. I am using new TDK media straight from package. Make sure the drive is configured as the Master drive. It is so figured. Try uninstalling any other CD mastering software that may be installed on this computer. I believe I have removed everything, except Windows MEDIA Player. Try moving the drive to another computer, if possible, to isolate whether it is the drive causing the blue screens or something else in the computer environment. This is a little more complicated, how do I do this and what do I do to see if it is the drive when I have it in another computer? Are there settings I should check somewhere? When the media is placed inside the DVD, the hand turns inside the circle for maybe 30 seconds, then click, dreaded blue screen with this message "Stop 00 (0X000000,0X000000,0X0000000) Driver IRLQ Not less or equal Dumping external memory to disk" and then the server reboots itself. Any other ideas?????
jhal
This looks like a software conflict. I had similar problems with 510A on config. media insertion (before it was directly supported). Could you double check that sony provided applications Sonic applications (dla, record now, mydvd) are not installed. Then, also ensure you have no holdovers from other programs, such as Adaptec Direct CD and EasyCD and Adaptec UDF driver. It looks like some software is tied to run on autoinsert of media, and this software may be conflicting. When retro is NOT loaded, does any software start up on insert of blank dvd? If problem is still there after ensuring other software is cleared out, look at what aspi version is installed/not installed - using aspi checker provided by dantz. Adaptec has most recent version of aspi software. Problem still there, then try bypassing aspi and using nt passthru, "Secret prefs", in retro, ctrl-alt-p-p, under execution change setting of "use nt scsi passthru" Good luck. RetroSF
Okay, after trying all the suggestions and reading back forums and still not getting the Sony DRU 530A to configure, I called Tech people yesterday. Their advice, "Stop banging my head. All harddrives are working with Retrospect." So I went to Costco and bought Maxtor 120 External drive which will be hooked up today and we will start all over. I will still keep an eye out to see if 530A gets okayed by Retrospect, I think putting a disk in my safe is a little easier than disconnecting the harddrive and putting it into the safe. (I think that will be my plan.) Thanks to those who offered solutions.
