redadmin
INFO: Retrospect 6.5 Mutiserver with Open File backup OS= Windows 2000 Server My retrospect has been crashing lately. The first time it crashed I had to do a cold shut down. When I restarted it said it can not find boot.ini. I worked with Microsoft to get the machine back up and running. A few days later Retrospect had trouble moving the robotics in the tape drive So I restarted the server again this time by normal shutdown procedure, and again it said missing boot.ini. Microsoft is saying that it must be something in Retrospect that keeps erasing the boot.ini file when retrospect crashed or backs it up. Any Ideas? natew
Hi Retrospect would indeed read the boot.ini file during a full backup but it won't overwrite it. I would say there is a problem on the hard disk. I suppose it is possible that accesing the file is enough to damage it on a bad disk. Can you try rebooting a few times without running Retrospect inbetween? Any chance you can install a new hard drive on this machine? Nate
