Moving catalogs to new computer causes matching/incremental backups not to work!

Recommended Posts

I am using Retrospect 5.0.238 on both Mac OS 9 and X. I am often have to perform backups of external disks from different machines. So I move the most recent catalog files to machine that I plan to backup with, and so far I haven't consistently been able to get the matching functions to work properly with incremental backups, it always wants to backup the entire contents of a folder, even if it has been backedup prior.

Is there something I am missing?

Kind Regards,

D

Hi

The issue you have mentioned occurs because file attributes Retrospect uses to select files for backup are reported differently by OS9 and OSX. In other words Retrospect cannot recognize the files as identical because the OS represents them differently.

In the end it is best to run your backups in OSX or backup one of the machines via Retrospect client.
