Retrospect quits when scanning Hard Drive

Recommended Posts

I just installed Retrospect Desktop and have used Restrospect for years on Mac OS 9. When retrospect finishes scanning the files on my startup drive it pauses then quits. About 136000 files. If I do a smaller backup of applications or users it works fine. Any suggestions.? Running 10.2.6 on a PM 8600 400 mhz G3 and Tape backup.

I have the same problem on a clean install of 5.1 on an xserve running os x server 10.2.6.

I am trying a duplicate volume to another drive.

It "poofs" without a trace during the scanning phase.

I have seen this on several recent installs of the software.

I have been speaking with Dantz support, all whom I have talked to say they have never heard of this happening before. really?

Hi

Are there any errors in the log?

I have seen this happen when there is a "broken" file or folder on the drive. Disk utils usually will not fix these files but if you look at them in the finder they will show up as a directory in some windows and as a file in others. The only way to find them is to try backing up your machine one subvolume at a time. If a particular subvolume fails to backup, break it up into subvolumes until you can pinpoint the problem file.
