Folder copy from NT2000 server to Mac OSX

Recommended Posts

I have used Retrospect 5 Workgroup with OS 9 successfully to Duplicate a single folder on an NT2000 server (afp mounted volume) to my Mac but now, having changed to OSX, this doesn't work.

I have tried using the Client on the NT server instead of mounting the server volume and that will copy the files but they copy as text files instead of the applications and data files they are and can't be used.

The only successful way I have found is to log in to OSX as root, and then afp mount the server volume. I don't think I should be logged in as root all the time so when I log out, then log in as my regular user, the folder I just copied to is locked to my access.

Is there a 'better way' to do this?

Yep. And it's noted in the ReadMe, and has been discussed here on the Forum about a zillion times.

Here's a thread from April of 2002, found with a search for "AFP Volume:"
