Immediate Backup "Selecting Problems"

Recommended Posts

I have setup my user directory as a sub volume for backup. Backing up to CDs

Under Selecting I have set up:

Include files matching/Selector/ All Files Except Cache Files

But always exclude files matching/name exactly matches Pictures(Enclosing Folder name does match Pictures)

and file name/exactly matches BaseDrive.vhd

or matching/

file name exactly matches UndoDrive1.vhd.

What I am trying to accomplish here is a backup of my user directory without my iPhoto libraries and without my Virtual PC hard drive files.

The back up procedure works fine but all of the files I have selected to be excluded are included in the backup.

Thanks,

The criteria you've provided is asking Retrospect to exclude files that have the name Pictures and the name BaseDrive.vhd. As files can only have one name, this criteria would exclude nothing.

And means the file must meet both criteria

Or means the file must meet either criteria

For example:

1.

Exclude files matching file label is Cool

and

Exclude files matching file label is Hot

Files cannot be both Cool and Hot. Nothing will be excluded.

2.

Exclude files matching label is Cool

or

Exclude files matching label is Hot

Files can be either Cool or Hot and they will be excluded.

Retrospect selectors are based on Boolean expressions, and can be tricky if you are not familiar with the logic. Understanding the difference between and / or statements is a good place to start.
