What to EXCLUDE on Windows backups

Recommended Posts

You might start with/take a look at the "All Except Cache Files" Selector provided by Dantz. I do most of my backups with this, although I often make a custom selector that Includes this selector and then Excludes additional directories and files. Then just make this your selector choice for a script instead of the default "All Files."

I created a selector that I sent out to all my sites. It is a modified version of Dantz's All Files Except Cache Files. I added exclusions for .MP3 / AVI / MPG files along with a huge space saving one of :

any folder name does include "Documents and Settings"

and folder name does include "Local Settings\Temp"

I find that Windows 2000 keeps a ton of duplicate items and old data in there.
