sylvainl Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 With prices falling on DVD-R media (1$ a disc), it looks quite attractive to use this format for backup. Looking at DVD-R supported drives for Macintosh, I can only see one drive. Is there more to it? Also, can one do an incremental backup on a disc? I have read elsewhere that DVD-R are not multi-session enabled.
natew Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Hi Retrospect 5.1 allows you to autoconfigure a drive. As a result most drives will work. Retrospect allows you to write multiple sessions to any disk until the disk is full. Other Utilities do not allow for this. Nate

To the best of my knowledge, this is NOT possible. I have many partially burned DVD-R sessions to prove that Retrospect will NOT add new session data after the first use of a DVD-R. DVD-RW must be erased to be rewritten. g=
AmyJ Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 Quote: To the best of my knowledge, this is NOT possible. Retrospect is specifically designed to write multiple sessions to a single disc. If you are having difficulty, it would be helpful to note your configuration: OS, backup device make/model/interface, version of Retrospect, along with any error messages being generated when you attempt to append to a disc.
tubbs1 Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 Has anyone had any luck with the QPS Que! 2i DVD+/-RW Firewire/USB2.0 external drive? I've running OSX 10.2.8 on a powerbook G3 2000 (pismo) with Retrospect 5.1 installed, I tried the configuration utility, it went through the process and told me it didn't work. It then sent the error log to Dantz -- I wanted to try the config again but I'm unwilling to waste 2 DVD-R's again.
tubbs1 Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 The drive I mentioned above is a NEC 1300a mechanism, firmware version 1.7 I was able to get retrospect to autoconfigure DVD+RW disks, but when I tried to backup something I got execution errors on pretty much everything.
