vegstan
Can anyone tell me why, using 6.5 I get Trouble writing: "6-5 E on Maxtor" (4190145024), error -246 (reached file size limit)? This is a Backup operation from an internal 1.17GB partition to a 40 GB Maxtor. Thank you, Stan
AmyJ
Are you backing up to a File backup set or a Disk backup set? How is the Maxtor drive formatted - as FAT32 or NTFS?
vegstan
I am backing up to a file and the Maxtor is formated as FAT 32. Thanks for your help! Stan
natew
Hi Fat 32 limits the size of a single file to 4GB. Your backup file is likely exactly 4 GB now. You can get around this by reformatting the drive with NTFS or using a disk backup set. Either way you will be all set. Nate

awnews
How big is the actual backup file on the destination (FAT32) directory when it stopped? "Size" is a tricky thing given sector sizes and other variables.
natew
Hi Remember that Retrospect backups add data to your backup file every time the backup runs. So your backup file will be much larger than your source drive over time. It is very likely that the backup file is exactly 4GB now - the most Fat32 can handle. Doing a recycle backup will start the file from scratch again. Your best bet is using a disk backup set instead Nate
